Hugo Lacoue-Labarthe is a doctoral researcher in comparative literature at the Université Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle. His dissertation focuses on JRR Tolkien's translations, rewritings and commentaries of medieval texts (written mainly in Old English, Middle English, Old Norse among other languages), considering how Tolkien, apart from his Legendary, joins a medieval tradition of constant reshaping of literary figures. He has studied modern and medieval literature in the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris), where he earned his MA as well as the agrégation. His master's dissertation focused on the issue of translating Tolkien into French by studying the depiction of forests' episodes in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. He taught French at Exeter College and Merton College, Oxford.
