Samuel Sant'Ana is currently taking his D.Phil. in Literature from State University of São Paulo (UNESP, Brazil), the same university by which he holds a BA in Literature and Languages and an MA in Literary Studies. He has been at the University of Oxford as a recognised student, being affiliated with the English Faculty under the supervision of the Tolkien Scholar Stuart D. Lee. He taught French in the State University of São Paulo in 2024 and has also been a Portuguese teacher of the Department of Education of São Paulo since 2021. He is a member of the ENT (Tolkienian Narrative Studies), an academic group devoted to the study of Tolkien's works in Brazil, and also a member of Tolkien Society. He has published in Brazil articles, essays and book chapters concerning Tolkien and Medieval Literature.
